Rick Hindley, 43, has been appointed Executive Director of the Aluminium Packaging Recycling Organisation (Alupro), the not for profit organisation which has responsibility for meeting targets through work on practical recycling programmes and public education. The organisation is funded by the leading aluminium packaging and reprocessing companies in the UK. Rick started his career in the sector at the industry-sponsored Aluminium Can Recycling Organisation (ACRA) in 1989, moving to Alcan/Novelis ten years later as operations manager, and then national manager. He moved to the UK's largest compliance scheme Valpak in 2005, as corporate and local government affairs manager, and his new appointment started at the beginning of February. Alupro chairman Derek Peden says: "We are delighted that Rick is joining us, because his knowledge of the industry has been gained from several different viewpoints, and he is therefore well placed to serve the very best interests of our membership. Alupro is a vibrant organisation, which brings together obligated producers on the one hand, and reprocessors and exporters on the other. Our common cause is to build packaging recycling rates to the highest possible level." Steve Gough, Valpak chief executive officer comments: " We are obviously sorry to see Rick go, however his new appointment provides a great opportunity for our two organisations to work closer together in the future to maximise the recovery of valuable aluminium packaging from both the household waste stream and the harder to access 'away from home' sector. We look forward to continuing to work with Rick and wish him every success in his new role." ENDS
