The average UK household uses 27 aerosols a year. Aluminium aerosols are most popular in packaging cosmetic and personal care products including deodorants, shaving and hair care products.
In 2013 1467 million aerosols were filled in the UK, with 727 million of those being made of aluminium.
Aluminium aerosols are formed using a process known as ‘impact extrusion’
Empty aerosols can be recycled in the home along with other metal food and drink cans. They must be empty, but please don’t attempt to pierce or squash them. Any aerosols which still contain product should be recycled at your local council’s household recycling centre.
How can you tell if your aerosol is empty?
